Holiday Safety Tips
The December holidays are almost here! And that means sunshine, beaches, braais and fun with friends and family. Use these tips to stay safe over the holiday season.
1. Rest stop
If you’re planning a long road trip, be sure to check rest stops along the way where you can stretch your legs, have a bite to eat or have a nap. Good places are:
- - Picnic spots
- - Service stations
- - Restaurants
- - Toll gates
2. Stay alert
Driving over long stretches at odd hours through unfamiliar terrain can be taxing and tiring. Try:
- - Cool air
- - Music
- - Proper sunglasses
- - Wet wipes or water to cool yourself off
3. Stay sane
Travelling with kids or pets can be exhausting. Have these in the car:
- - Small toy packs or lucky packets that your kids can open along the way
- - Electronic gadgets like DVD players, mobile wi-fi, tablets and media players
- - Sun covers to keep them cool and comfortable
4. Stay safe
Here are a few tips you can follow for staying safer on the roads:
- - Service your car before embarking on your journey
- - Keep a safe following distance
- - Put hazards on when you have to stop at night or travel in low-visibility conditions
- - Inform loved ones of your estimated times of departure and arrival
Your safety and that of your loved ones is non-negotiable. Get everything done well in advance so that you can fully relax and enjoy a stress-free December holiday.
